Yaz Brain Damage Attorneys

Yaz and Yasmin birth control pills have the hormones drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol that apparently prevent pregnancies effectively. However, Yaz has been known to cause serious side effects including blood clots, strokes, heart attacks, pancreatitis and gallbladder disease. Blood clots that occur as a result of strokes triggered by the use of Yaz or Yasmin can be life-threatening. That is because these strokes occur when a blood clot blocks a blood vessel or an artery in the brain. This is known as an ischemic stroke. During such a stroke, the flow of blood to the woman's brain is stopped. The brain cells start to die immediately because they are prevented from getting the oxygen and nutrients they need to survive and thrive. This can cause severe and irreversible brain damage.

The blood clots that cause such Yaz strokes and brain damage could either be a clot that stays in place in the brain or a "cerebral embolism," which means that it is a clot that breaks loose and moves through the blood to the brain. A hemorrhagic stroke happens when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures and bleeds into the brain, causing swelling of the brain tissue. The following are the symptoms of a stroke:

  • Numbness on one side of the body
  • Trouble with vision either in one or both eyes
  • Dizziness
  • Loss of balance or coordination
  • Speech or cognition problems
  • Unexplained severe headache

The extent of disability following a stroke depends on the extent of the brain damage. Depending on which area of the brain in damaged, the Yaz user could experienced disabilities such as paralysis pain, cognitive problems, memory loss and emotional disturbances. Depending on the symptoms and extent of damage, rehabilitation of a stroke usually involves physical, speech and occupational therapy.

Ventricular Fibrillation

Ventricular fibrillation is one of the serious side effects seen in Yaz and Yasmin birth control users. What is ventricular fibrillation? Quite simply, it's a condition in which the heart's electrical activity becomes disordered. When this occurs, the heart's chambers contract in a rapid, unsynchronized manner and results in the heart pumping little or no blood.

The following symptoms may occur within one hour before the person collapses:

  • Chest pain
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Shortness of breath

Ventricular fibrillation is an extremely serious condition that can cause collapse and sudden cardiac death in minutes. This condition is usually treated with a cardioverter-defibrillator, which shocks the heart to normalize the heartbeat. A person who has ventricular fibrillation will suddenly collapse or become unconscious because the brain and muscles have stopped receiving blood from the heart.
