Yaz Side Effect Injury Attorneys

Yaz Side Effects

Yasmin (generic name Ocella) and Yaz are one of the most popular birth control pills in the market. It is popular not only because it serves as an effective means of birth control by preventing ovulation, but also because it causes changes in the uterine lining and cervix that makes the fertilization process much more difficult. It also makes it harder for the fertilized egg to attach itself to the uterus. Yaz is said to be 99 percent effective for birth control.

However, there have been complaints from consumers nationwide about several serious side effects linked to Yaz including heart attacks, strokes and blood clots, which in some cases have been life-threatening or have left patients with lifelong health problems.

What sets Yaz apart from other birth control pills is the fact that it uses the chemical drospirenone (DRSP). This makes it unique and different from other birth control pills in the market. Still, recent studies have found that drospirenone or progestin raises the potassium level in the body, which can make it extremely dangerous for those who already have health complications such as high blood pressure, obesity or diabetes. What is even more frightening is that some of the more severe Yaz side effects have affected women who appear to be in perfect health.

Some of the severe Yaz side effects include but are not limited to:

  • Heart attacks: With Yaz users blood clots may lead to a heart attack. However, the progestin hormone may cause other changes in the body that can result in a heart attack.
  • Stroke: One of the adverse effects of using Yasmin/Yaz is the disruption of blood flow to the brain. This can lead to a significant loss in brain function and could result in brain damage or cause a stroke.
  • Pulmonary embolism: This is a condition where the pulmonary artery is blocked. Common symptoms include breathing problems, palpitations of the heart and chest pain. If not treated in a timely manner, pulmonary embolism could have devastating effects including sudden death.
  • Deep vein thrombosis: This is a blood clot within a deep vein and usually develops in the pelvis, legs or arms. This can be an extremely painful condition, which can lead to pulmonary embolism.
  • Gallbladder disease: The progestin in Yaz can increase cholesterol levels in bile and decrease gallbladder movement, which can lead to gallstones. This can cause serious problems if they become trapped in bile ducts.
  • Pancreatitis: This is an inflammation of the pancreas, which can lead to severe complications including bleeding, infection and permanent tissue damage
  • Hyperkalemia: This is a condition caused by higher than normal levels of potassium in the bloodstream. Hyperkalemia could result in cardiac arrest.

Bayer, the company that manufactures Yasmin and Yaz, has misled consumers by not making all of these severe side effects public. As a result, women who have taken these birth control pills have suffered some of these severe side effects.
